Girl Online - Zoe Sugg
"I have this dream that, secretly, all teenage girls feel exactly like me. And maybe one day, when we realize that we all feel the same, we can all stop pretending we're something we're not... But until that day, I'm going to keep it real on this blog and keep it unreal in real life."
Penny has a secret.
Under the alias Girl Online, Penny blogs her hidden feelings about friendship, boys, high school drama, her crazy family, and the panic attacks that have begun to take over her life. When things go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets Noah, a gorgeous, guitar-strumming American. Suddenly Penny is falling in love - and capturing every moment of it on her blog.
But Noah has a secret, too, one that threatens to ruin Penny's cover - and her closest friendship - forever.
I am a big fan of Zoe's youtube videos but only started watching them within the last 12 months. I wasn't really aware of this book coming out until it was already on the shelves but I really liked the idea of reading a book written by someone on youtube. It's like reading a book written by an online friend.
Aside from that fact, the plot really interested me. I like romance with a twist, and the added extra of them going to America to plan a wedding really made the decision for me. I was planning on buying it eventually but my fiancee bought it for me for Christmas, a surprise present. I read it the next week and found it hard to put it down. I really fell in love with the main character and the British-ness of the story, and am excited for the sequel.
I know a lot of people have shunned this book because they discovered that Zoe had a lot of help writing it. This doesn't bother me at all. Do you really think every book you read was solely written by the author? Without the help of editors, friends, family and publishers putting forward their ideas/likes/dislikes? The author is the person who came up with the plot, develops the characters, puts forward the twists, and listens to the experts. I would expect nothing more from a young author, who already has another job, coming out with her debut novel.
