17. Over-Hyped

Twilight Saga - Stephenie Meyer

Book One:
When 17 year old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town.

But in spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella.

Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car.

Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close.
My best friend was obsessed with these books when they started getting popular. She read the first two in a week and went out to buy the third when I was staying at her house. I thought I would give them a go and bought the first 3. It took me quite a while to read them because I just couldn't get into it. The first one doesn't have characters that develop enough for me, it just seems to be cold, hard facts about each character with little exciting revelations (which is odd with vampire fiction). The second and third books did get better in terms of the storyline developing and the fourth was quite good at exciting me. There were particular passages in the third book that stuck with me because at the time I was going through a strange kind of heartbreak/loss despite not being in love with the person.
They're not the worst books I've read, the storylines do get better. But for the first book in particular the hype was a bit crazy.
The book covers are nice, I definitely prefer the black covers to the white versions.
